Collaborative Council of the Redwood Empire | Sonoma County

A Coach may seem like a luxury in a divorce that already seems costly.  Most divorces, even when there is good will between the spouses, involve intense emotions over core issues.  You will have feelings about when you will each have time with the kids, whether you will receive or pay child support, and who will keep the home you lived in together.  When people experience strong (but expectable) emotions such as grief, anger, fear, and guilt, they tend to act impulsively and make decisions they may later regret. People who feel threatened may say things in Collaborative meetings that detract from the process and can cause problems going forward.  While your Attorney makes sure your legal rights get protected, your Divorce Coach helps make sure everything is being done to help the process go well so that the process can be as successful as possible, as efficiently as possible.  For example, sometimes one parent focuses more from a logical perspective, while the other focuses more on the emotional aspects of the divorce.  This can be like one parent talking Spanish and the other French.  The Coach can serve as a translator of sorts, making sure the communication among all is going well and is clear and at the right pace.
